Tonsillectomy, day 3: side effects

Today was kinda bad.  The pain meds make her nauseous and she has some medicine to help with that but thought it was ok today since she’d made it yesterday…  Ended up throwing up around noon which was super bad cause of the stress on the throat plus acid, etc.  Gross.  Anyway, bouncing back a little from that, but overall a low day.  Clearly less of an appetite, but still doing ok, and I think still drinking enough.

So she’s cut back on her pain meds a bit, 7.5cc from 10, we’re hoping that helps the nausea and is still effective for the pain.  We’ll see tomorrow, it seems worse in the morning.  Still no talking, lots of ice water.  Tomorrow’s day 4, which I’ve read may begin a turn for the worse, but I also think every case is different and she’s probably ahead of the curve.  Here’s hoping!

My work has been great during this, letting me work from home, and today I got a good chunk of work done on my biggest project.  Still sort of behind, but this was a good burst of progress.  Probably work a bit more over the weekend to make up for some of the time off.

And that’s the update from Duoteam Headquarters!  Hope everyone is in their extended weekend of holiday fun!

Man, that was a rough day. It’s bad that the pain meds can also cause nausea, you can’t win. Each day that passes though, is one day closer to this all being over. I’m looking for the bright side, but I know it doesn’t help get through all this any easier. Hugs to you both.

Ouch, my throat is hurting just reading this–throwing up is bad enough when you don’t have a sore throat. Can she take the pain meds along with some of the food she’s been eating? A lot of those pain meds will have that effect on you if you take them on an empty stomach, maybe if she takes them with some jello or some of her mashed potatoes or something might help. It’s kind of a vicious circle there, isn’t it? I’ve heard that the 3rd day is the worst so maybe tomorrow will be the MAJOR turning point. You sure are fortunate that you can work at home, and she sure is fortunate that you are taking such good care of her.

Tough times – but I think Nate is right, Karen, you might be ahead of the curve and with luck will soon be past the worst of it. Pain meds suck, IMHO. They may relieve the pain in some small way, but if they leave you feeling woozy and nauseated, what good is that? I wonder if ibuprofen would be strong enough to help with the pain??

    Love you both!

Sorry to hear about the troubles. When I had my huge wreck in college that left me in need of pain meds and sick taking them, liquid jello helped a lot. It was sustenance and low difficulty. Hope the dreaded day 4 is actually good for you both.
