Yay, double yay for the walking, hand-waving pumpkins. I am very glad to learn that the sale was so successful (thanks, Peter, for the link so I could read “the rest of the story”).

Since pumpkins are the topic, I am going to share this recipe to help celebrate the success of the sale as well as the advertising strategy:

Fresh Pumpkin Martini
4 tablespoons or 2 ounces vodka
3 tablespoons fresh pumpkin puree
1 tablespoon simple syrup (mix 1 part sugar and 1 part water, heat in a pan until the sugar dissolves)
Dash of nutmeg and cinnamon
Dash of vanilla paste
Ice
Freshly grated nutmeg for garnish

Add all ingredients except garnish to a cocktail shaker. Shake vigorously. Strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with freshly grated nutmeg.

Makes 1 serving.

That one I sent was supposed to say “thanks for the new wallpaper” for my desk top computer—not what it does say which makes no sense at all. Sorry for that, but your dad kept interrupting me when I was writing it–guess that will teach me to proof read what I write before I submit it.

Oh, bring customers in they certainly did! I didn't believe Nate when he threatened to show up in a pumpkin outfit, but sure enough, there he was in blaze orange. It was THE key to getting attention, for sure! I am grateful.

Fun! Well, looking at your sign made me think – where did the word “pumpkin” originate. Here’s what I found on the internets:

The name pumpkin originated from the Greek word for “large melon” which is “pepon.” “Pepon” was nasalized by the French into “pompon.” The English changed “pompon” to “Pumpion.” Shakespeare referred to the “pumpion” in his Merry Wives of Windsor. American colonists changed “pumpion” into “pumpkin.” The “pumpkin” is referred to in The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, Peter, Peter, Pumpkin Eater and Cinderella.
