I really like your new grill. The pictures show you had a great barbecue kick-off. Nate, was the root beer a home brew as well? And, Karen, I'm guessing the Hawaiian birthday cake was your creation. Was there pineapple and/or coconut in it? Sounds yummy!! I think I see your point about supporting certain meat producers. If you are going to eat meat, that's the way to go. I think there's merit in combining approaches, meat-wise: eating lower on the food chain in general, and eating "good" meat when sausage or bacon is on the menu. Of course I checked out the links for Cafe 28 and Surly. The cafe looks super nice, and the tie-in with Surly beer was interesting.
